Energizer Launches Child-Safe Coin Battery to Prevent Burns
The well-known battery manufacturer, Energizer, has released a new battery designed to be safe for children. Named Ultimate Child Shield, this product claims to be the only coin lithium battery in the world that is safe from burns even if swallowed.
According to Energizer’s findings, there are more than 3,500 incidents of coin lithium batteries being swallowed in the US each year. These incidents primarily occur among children aged 0-6 years.
When swallowed, the impact can be very dangerous. This is because the size of coin lithium batteries is generally small, making it easy to get stuck in the throat and can cause burns within 15 minutes.
The incident can also threaten life within a few hours, requiring prompt medical attention.
“With the widespread use of 20 mm coin lithium batteries in various devices, it is important to address the danger of burn hazards from children swallowing them,” said Lori Shambro, EVP, Chief Marketing Officer Energizer.
This battery is also equipped with “Color Alert” technology which will make the mouth look blue, due to the battery components coming into contact with saliva. This support will help adults get a warning when the battery is swallowed by children.
Energizer also coats this battery with a bitter, but non-toxic coating to minimize the potential for it to be put in the mouth by children. In addition, the packaging is also designed to be difficult for children to open.
The Energizer Ultimate Child Shield battery is available in 2032, 2025 and 2016 coin sizes. This battery is available at battery stores in the US and Canada, as compiled by KompasTekno from Mobile Syrup.
