Energizer Launches Child-Friendly Coin Battery, Safe if Swallowed
Energizer, a well-known battery manufacturer, has released a new battery designed to be safe for children.
The product, named Ultimate Child Shield, is claimed to be the only lithium coin battery in the world that is safe from burns even if swallowed.
According to Energizer’s findings, there are more than 3,500 incidents of lithium coin batteries being swallowed in the US each year. These incidents primarily occur among children aged 0-6 years old.
When swallowed, the impact can be very dangerous. This is because the size of lithium coin batteries is generally small, making it easy to get stuck in the throat and can cause burns within 15 minutes.
The incident can also threaten life within a few hours, requiring prompt medical attention.
“With the widespread use of 20 mm lithium coin batteries in various devices, it is important to address the danger of burns caused by children swallowing them,” said Lori Shambro, EVP, Chief Marketing Officer at Energizer.
The battery is also equipped with “Color Alert” technology which will make the mouth appear blue due to the battery components coming into contact with saliva. This feature will help adults get a warning when the battery is swallowed by children.
Energizer also coats this battery with a bitter, but non-toxic coating to minimize the potential for children to put it in their mouths. In addition, the packaging is also designed to be difficult for children to open.
The Energizer Ultimate Child Shield battery is available in 2032, 2025 and 2016 coin sizes. The battery is available at battery stores in the US and Canada, as compiled by KompasTekno from Mobile Syrup.
