Ending House Arrest, Yaqut to Be Processed Back to KPK Detention Centre

Jakarta, VIVA - The suspect in the alleged hajj quota corruption case, former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, is reportedly being processed to return to state detention or rutan. “Today, Monday, 23 March 2026, the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) announced that it is carrying out the process of changing the type of detention for suspect YCQ in the alleged criminal corruption case of the hajj quota, namely from house arrest back to KPK detention,” said KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters, quoted on Tuesday, 24 March 2026. He stated that the anti-corruption agency would continue to inform the public about the developments in the transfer. “We convey our thanks to all Indonesian people who continue to monitor and support the KPK in handling this case. We will keep updating on the developments,” he said. Previously reported, after previously being under house arrest, former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas underwent a health examination on Monday afternoon, 23 March 2026. This is said to be the determining factor in whether he will return to the KPK detention centre. The examination was conducted amid public spotlight on the change in Yaqut’s detention status, which previously raised questions. “Still undergoing health examination,” said his lawyer Dodi Abdul Kadir to reporters. He emphasised that the doctor’s examination results would be an important basis for determining the next steps for his client. However, Yaqut’s legal counsel has not revealed the hospital location where the examination took place. Dodi also revealed that this examination is the first comprehensive one conducted, after previously Yaqut had not had a chance to undergo a complete health test at the start of detention. It is known that former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas was reported not to be in the KPK detention centre during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday. That news was revealed by the wife of the suspect, former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel Ebenezer Gerungan, namely Silvia Rinita Harefa, regarding former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas not celebrating Eid in the state detention centre. Silvia is known to have visited her husband on 21 March 2026, who is a suspect in the alleged extortion corruption case, and conveyed to the journalists waiting for her that there was circulating information among the detainees about Yaqut not being seen in the rutan.
