End of the Drama in the Eviction of Hotel Sultan
The protracted dispute over the control of land in Blok 15 of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, the site of the former Hotel Sultan in Central Jakarta, has entered its final phase.
The Central Jakarta District Court has officially granted the government’s application for the execution of the eviction.
This decision bolsters the position of the State Secretariat Ministry alongside the Gelora Bung Karno Complex Management Centre (PPKGBK) to proceed with the eviction of the land in accordance with the court ruling.
The legal representative for the State Secretary Minister and PPKGBK, Kharis Sucipto, stated that the determination for the execution’s implementation was issued by the Chief of the Central Jakarta District Court, Dr. Husnul Khotimah, S.H., on Thursday (30/4/2026).
According to him, the issuance of this determination provides a strong legal basis for the government to promptly execute the land and buildings atop Blok 15.
“The Central Jakarta District Court assesses that the application for the execution of the eviction complies with the law and therefore issues the Determination for the execution of the eviction. This determination serves as the perfect legal basis for the State Secretariat Ministry and PPKGBK to vacate the land and buildings (former Hotel Sultan),” said Kharis, quoted on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
Kharis emphasised that the government’s legal position is now final and unaffected by any other administrative legal steps that related parties might still pursue.
All stages serving as prerequisites for the execution, from aanmaning to constatering, have been carried out in accordance with legal procedures.
Therefore, the actual execution of Blok 15 now awaits only technical coordination with relevant parties before on-site implementation.
“This determination for the execution of the eviction demonstrates that the law must not be influenced by repeated litigation manoeuvres,” Kharis stated.
On the other hand, the Director of PPKGBK, Rakhmadi Afif Kusumo, assured that the eviction process will be conducted professionally while still considering humanitarian aspects.
He stressed that the government’s attention is not solely focused on asset takeover but also on the continuity of workers and business partners who have relied on operations in the area.
“We will carry out the eviction execution process by considering all aspects, including the sustainability of the fate of employees and vendors who have depended on Blok 15 for their livelihood,” he said.
Rakhmadi affirmed that the reorganisation of the area is not intended to halt economic activities but rather to optimise the function of state assets so that their benefits can be felt more broadly by the public.
According to him, the government has also prepared a Service Post to assist affected parties during the transition period towards new management.
