End of the Chase: Debt Collector Who Stabbed Lawyer in Tangerang Apprehended
A bloody incident occurred when a group of debt collectors, also known as ‘mata elang’ (matel), in Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, attempted to forcibly repossess a vehicle, attacking and stabbing the victim.
The horrific incident took place in a residential area in Karawaci, Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, on Sunday (February 23rd). The perpetrators arrived at the victim’s house intending to repossess his Toyota Fortuner, which was reportedly in arrears.
The incident was recorded in an amateur video and went viral on social media. The video shows two men entering a white car with license plate B-2540-JUN and speeding away.
“Hey, this is…this is robbery. Please, please, this is a debt collector, a robber…a robber…hey, robber,” a woman shouts in the video, as seen by detikcom on Tuesday (February 24th).
Another video shows the victim already in a room, sitting and holding his blood-soaked stomach.
“My husband was stabbed. Police, please, my husband was stabbed, please…oh my,” the victim’s wife cries hysterically.
One of the perpetrators has now been arrested. Police are still hunting for the other perpetrators. Here are some facts from the stabbing case in Tangerang, compiled by detikcom.
The Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said the incident occurred on Monday (February 23rd) at 4:40 PM. The victim and his wife, who were about to pick up their child, found three perpetrators in front of their house.
“The victim and the three unknown individuals had an argument about the outstanding installments on the victim’s white Toyota Fortuner, which were two months in arrears. The victim and the witness ignored the three unknown individuals who claimed to be debt collectors,” Budi told reporters on Tuesday (February 24th).
Upon arriving at the residential gate, the victim reprimanded the security guard about the perpetrators who came to his house. The perpetrators, who were about to leave the residential area, met the victim at the gate. That’s when the argument escalated and led to the stabbing.
“Because at that time, the car allegedly belonging to the perpetrators was blocking the road, the victim approached the alleged perpetrators to ask for their identification. When the witness came out, he saw the victim covered in blood, with a stab wound in his stomach, inflicted by one of the men wearing a blue checkered shirt,” Budi explained.
Shortly after, the perpetrators left the scene. Budi said the victim was stabbed three times by the perpetrators.
“The witness saw two stab wounds in the stomach and one stab wound in the back. At that time, he was taken to the Mega clinic, but because the victim’s injuries were severe, he was rushed to Siloam International Hospital in Lippo Karawaci, Kelapa Dua,” he said.
The police arrested the debt collector, or ‘mata elang’ (matel), who stabbed lawyer Bastian Sori, in Kelapa Dua, Tangerang. The perpetrator, identified as JBI, was arrested on Tuesday (February 24th) evening in Semarang, Central Java.
“The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Metro Jaya Police secured the suspected perpetrator of the stabbing of a lawyer in the Kelapa Dua sub-district, South Tangerang. The suspected perpetrator, identified as JBI, was secured on Thursday, February 24, 2026, at 11:50 PM in Semarang, Central Java,” said the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto.
Budi said the perpetrator was arrested on a bus. At that time, the perpetrator was on his way to escape after stabbing the victim.
“He was secured on the bus, while he was trying to escape,” he said.
The perpetrator has now been taken by investigators from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Metro Jaya Police. Further examination and investigation are being carried out to uncover the case thoroughly.
“Currently, he is being questioned for further investigation,” he added.
The police have identified three perpetrators involved in the debt collector, or ‘mata elang’ (matel), who stabbed lawyer Bastian Sori. The other two perpetrators are still being sought.
“One perpetrator has been identified, and the other two are still being searched for,” said the Chief of Police of Metro Tangerang Selatan, AKBP Boy Jumalolo, on Wednesday (February 25, 2026).
Separately, the Head of Criminal Investigation of the Metro Tangerang Selatan Police, AKP Wira, said that the investigation was being carried out by the police. The investigation is being conducted jointly to find the perpetrators.
“We are still investigating the perpetrators. Please pray that the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tangerang Selatan Police, the Kelapa Dua Police, and the support from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Metro Jaya Police will soon yield results,” he said.
