Empty shops in Jembatan Lima

JAKARTA (JP): About 150 of the 950 shops in the Jembatan Lima market in West Jakarta have been not been utilized over the last two years due to the absence of traders' interest.

It is ironic because the shops are abandoned at a time when there are many sidewalk vendors operating illegally along major roads, without any shelter.

"Anyone interested in utilizing the facilities is warmly welcome," Supena Suhardjo, head of Jembatan Lima market, said.

He explained that the 150 empty shops, each 1.5 x 1.5 meters in size, are located in the back part of the market. The rent is set at Rp 8,000 (US$3.63) each, per month. (31)
