Empty Shophouse in Cipete Searched in Connection with Corruption Case
Polda Metro Jaya searched a shophouse located in the Cipete area of South Jakarta in connection with a suspected corruption case. At the time of the search, the shophouse was unoccupied.
“Yes. The shophouse was empty (no one was there),” said the Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, to reporters at the scene on Friday (10/7/2026).
Budi said police then brought in a witness from among local residents to observe the search process. The witness had also seen the search warrant presented by police upon their arrival at the location.
“Earlier you could see there was a witness from the local community present here to confirm that the search carried out here was supported by a search warrant and a court order,” he explained.
Budi added that this shophouse was the thirteenth location searched in connection with the suspected corruption case. Polda Metro Jaya is still conducting searches together with the National Police’s Anti-Corruption Directorate (Kortastipidkor).
“The search at this thirteenth point is part of a series of investigative activities carried out previously. As we can witness together, a search is still being carried out at one of the shophouses in connection with the corruption offence being handled by a joint investigation between Kortastipidkor and Polda Metro Jaya,” he said.
Budi confirmed that the search at the thirteenth point resulted from yesterday’s witness examination. He said there was still a possibility that other locations would also be searched.
“From the results of witness examinations and case reviews, it means there are still developments at several other points. We will perhaps update you all on each activity carried out, so this is all very transparent,” Budi added.
Even so, Budi did not disclose which agency or company owns the shophouse currently being searched. Police had to force open the three-storey shophouse by cutting through a chain using an angle grinder.
“First, we cut the chain; second, we opened the door. As you can see, the shophouse has three storeys. This was to gain access to the third floor,” he explained.
Budi added that among the items secured by investigators were a number of documents and computers. However, police have not yet detailed which documents were seized.
“And as you can see now, many documents have been secured by the investigators, including computers and other items. We cannot yet identify or inventory everything that has been secured,” he said.
For context, Polda Metro Jaya previously searched several locations on Wednesday (8/7). These included a money changer and the de’Clan Signature café in the Cipete area of South Jakarta, as well as a house in the Bogor area of West Java.
In those searches, police seized a number of items of evidence ranging from gold bars to foreign currency worth billions of rupiah.
The string of searches relates to an investigation into three suspected corruption cases. The Head of Kortastipidkor at the National Police, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, said the investigations are being handled jointly with the Special Crimes Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya.
Totok said the cases involve suspected corruption in coal procurement at PLN that triggered electricity blackouts, the ASABRI corruption case, and the settlement of a debt owed by PT CBS to PT KNI, a subsidiary of the state-owned steelmaker Krakatau Steel.
