Empty Mall with No Visitors: HP Sellers Finally Close Shops
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Apple is one of the world’s leading mobile phone giants with the highest shipments, competing with Samsung. However, the Cupertino behemoth has recently announced a surprising decision.
Apple plans to close three retail Apple Store networks. The closures will take place in June 2026 at several shopping centres known for low visitor numbers. These are Apple Trumbull in Connecticut, Apple North County in California, and Apple Towson in Maryland.
“At Apple, we continue to strive to provide exceptional service and a great experience for our customers. As we invest in expanding and enhancing our retail stores and offerings worldwide, we remain cautious in evaluating our existing locations to ensure we can best meet our customers’ needs,” stated an official Apple statement, quoted from MacRumors.
“Following the departure of several retailers and the deteriorating conditions at Trumbull Mall, Shops at North County, and Towson Town Center, we have made the difficult decision to close our stores at these locations,” Apple added.
The teams at Trumbull and North County will continue providing services at the nearest stores. Meanwhile, employees at Towson can apply for available positions at Apple.
The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Coalition of Organized Retail Employees (IAM CORE), of which the Apple Towson Town Center staff are members, has spoken out about the Apple store closures.
IAM expressed strong anger over this decision. The closure of the Apple Store is described as Apple abandoning workers and communities that depend on the store for access to public transport units.
The union also mentioned the collective bargaining agreement that prevents relocation, which Apple claims could raise concerns. This includes efforts to destroy the union.
“Apple’s claim that the collective bargaining agreement prevents relocation is false and raises serious concerns that these closures are a cynical attempt to destroy the union. We are exploring all legal options and will work with elected officials and allies to hold Apple accountable,” stated IAM.
“We support the members of the IAM Coalition of Organized Retail Employees (IAM CORE) and the communities that rely on this store for essential access and support,” IAM continued.
