Employer Questioned After Two Domestic Workers Jump from 4th Floor of Benhil Boarding House in Central Jakarta
Police are still probing allegations of mistreatment by the employer in the case of two domestic workers (PRT) who desperately jumped from the fourth floor of a boarding house in the Bendungan Hilir area, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday night (22/4/2026).
Central Jakarta Metro Police Resort’s Criminal Investigation Unit Head, AKBP Roby Heri Saputra, stated that the employer of the two PRT has already been questioned by investigators.
However, the questioning process is ongoing and has not yet yielded conclusions.
“It’s not yet known if they were confined or not. I can’t comment further yet. They’re still being examined,” Roby said when contacted on Thursday (23/4/2026).
“The incident happened last night (Wednesday, 22 April 2026). After the two domestic workers jumped, residents witnessed the event and immediately provided assistance,” Roby added.
Residents who saw the incident promptly offered help and called for an emergency ambulance.
However, D was declared dead at the scene, while R suffered a broken arm and is currently being treated at Mintohardjo Hospital.
Roby noted that R is still undergoing treatment but has begun providing initial statements to investigators.
From initial examinations, police believe the two victims jumped in an attempt to escape from their workplace.
However, statements from a witness, another domestic worker, indicate that the victims were unhappy working there due to the employer’s behaviour, which was considered harsh.
“(The witness) didn’t say they were tortured, but (the employer was) harsh. Now, that harshness could be verbal or it could be physical,” Roby explained.
Nevertheless, police emphasise that these suspicions require further investigation.
“We don’t know yet because the questioning is still ongoing,” he said.
