Police have disclosed the trigger for an employer’s assault on a domestic worker (ART) in Sunter Agung, North Jakarta. The assault allegedly occurred because the victim soiled the employer’s place of worship.

“At the time, the perpetrator was cleaning the place of worship at their home, but the victim mischievously soiled that place of worship,” said Head of Public Relations of North Jakarta Metro Police, Iptu Maryati Jonggi, to reporters on Monday, 2 March 2026.

She stated that the assault incident occurred in 2023. However, the victim continues to work for the same employer to this day.

“There was then a communication breakdown between the perpetrator and the victim,” she explained.

The perpetrator subsequently carried out the assault through punching and kicking the victim. The perpetrator later apologised to the victim after the assault.

“The victim forgave the perpetrator and they reached a peaceful resolution shortly after the incident,” she said.

Previously, a video alleging assault against a domestic worker in Sunter Agung, North Jakarta, circulated on social media. The perpetrator was allegedly the domestic worker’s own employer.

In the video viewed, the perpetrator was seen carrying out the assault by punching the victim. Additionally, the perpetrator was seen kicking the victim.

The video also showed that there was more than one perpetrator. The perpetrators also appeared to assault the victim with an object resembling a belt.

The perpetrator could be heard speaking to the victim during the assault. Meanwhile, the victim appeared motionless whilst being assaulted by the perpetrator.

Head of Public Relations of North Jakarta Metro Police Iptu Maryati Jonggi stated that the case is currently being handled by the police. Investigators are still conducting a preliminary investigation.

“The case is being handled by investigators from the Women and Child Protection Unit and General Investigations Unit of North Jakarta Metro Police, and remains under investigation,” she said.
