Employee Recounts Discovery of Naked Man's Body in Kupang Lodging

A man named Yanto Kristo Benu, 32, was found dead at Wilma Penginapan 1, East Penfui Village, Central Kupang District, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The incident caused panic and fear among several employees. “Initially, I knocked on the door three times but there was no answer, so my friend said it seemed like no one was there. That made me feel scared and panicked,” said Risna Goi, 25, an employee of Wilma Penginapan 1, during an interview at the location in the early hours of Tuesday. Risna explained that the room appeared dark because the lights were not switched on. Feeling curious, she plucked up the courage to open the door. At that moment, she saw a shadowy figure under the bed. She then called a friend to turn on their mobile phone torch. Risna was shocked to see Yanto lying face down and naked under the bed. “When I shone the light like this, I saw him in a naked condition. I was immediately shocked and nervous. Then my friend and I ran straight outside,” said Risna. Despite this, Risna did not suspect Yanto was dead, thinking he might be heavily intoxicated. However, another employee confirmed the man was no longer alive and subsequently reported the incident to the authorities. “I thought he was drunk, but it turned out he had already passed away when my friend checked,” said the woman from Bajawa, Ngada Regency. Meanwhile, the victim’s younger brother, Yohanis Imanuel Benu, 22, stated that his brother had been working at the MPM Motor warehouse in Alak Subdistrict, Kupang City, for about ten years. “When my brother first started working, he was a driver delivering motorbikes to various regions, but currently he just works in the warehouse,” said Yohanis. According to Yohanis, after leaving his home, Yanto stopped answering his phone despite repeated calls from his wife and family, causing them to worry. Before leaving, Yanto informed them he was going to his boss’s house to deliver rice together. The family understood he would return the following day. By Sunday morning, Yohanis and his father began to worry. His father instructed Yohanis to call Yanto, but his phone was no longer active. On Monday morning, Yanto’s father and another daughter went to the Kupang City Police headquarters to file a missing person report. Police created a missing person poster for distribution on social media. The family eventually received information about Yanto’s death from a neighbour named Eto around 11.30 p.m. local time. Eto told the family to go to Wilma Penginapan immediately as many police officers were already there. On the way, Yohanis prayed his brother was safe, but upon arrival, police informed him that Yanto had died. Police have revealed that before being found dead, Yanto checked into the room with a woman whose identity is still being investigated. The woman was not recorded in the lodging’s check-in register and, according to witness statements, did not stay overnight.
