Employee Confinement in Central Jakarta Stemmed from Alleged Theft of Rp230 Million Plate

Police have stated that the confinement and assault of three employees at a printing business in Senen, Central Jakarta, originated from accusations of stealing a printing plate valued at Rp230 million. Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung, told reporters on Monday (29/6) that according to the suspects’ alibi, the owner believed the three employees were responsible for the loss of the plate. As a result, the owner, identified as MML, ordered other suspects to detain the victims. The victims were also asked to pay compensation of Rp50 million each. During the confinement, one victim, Adit Saputra, paid Rp50 million, while another, Rafly Jaelani, paid Rp5 million. Despite the payments, the confinement continued for approximately 21 days. The case came to light after a report was made via the 110 call centre to the Central Jakarta Police. Police are still investigating whether the alleged theft actually occurred, noting that the value of the item is still subjective as it was based on the perpetrators’ claim. Seven suspects have been arrested and detained, facing charges under articles of the Criminal Code with maximum penalties ranging from six months to nine years in prison.
