Emphasising ESG and AI Adoption, BPK Urges Transformation and Improved Governance at Ministry of Law
The Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) has expressed appreciation for the transformation undertaken by the Ministry of Law in strengthening institutional governance.
Reinforcement of bureaucratic reform, public service innovation, information transparency, and international cooperation are considered important assets for building an increasingly accountable government.
The appreciation was conveyed by BPK Member I Nyoman Adhi Suryadnyana, who also serves as Acting Head of AKN IV BPK, during the submission of the Audit Results Report (LHP) on the financial statements of ministries under the coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections in Jakarta.
According to Nyoman, institutional transformation achievements must continue to be developed so that state financial audits do not stop at compliance assessment, but also produce governance improvements and tangible benefits for the public.
“Audits do not merely produce opinions, but also contribute to the achievement of Golden Indonesia 2045 through strengthening government governance and promoting sustainable development,” Nyoman said in his statement on Tuesday, 18 August 2026.
BPK noted that the transformation is evident in improved quality of bureaucratic reform, development of public service innovations, strengthened information transparency, and enhanced international cooperation.
BPK considers these achievements important assets in supporting accountable government administration. However, future governance strengthening must also respond to an increasingly digital government environment.
Nyoman emphasised the importance of implementing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles as well as transformation towards Government 5.0, including the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for data analysis and cross-sector collaboration.
“Government 5.0 demands a whole-of-government approach. The key to achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision lies in combining Government 5.0 with resource management that prioritises sustainability through ESG principles,” Nyoman said.
According to BPK, this transformation still faces challenges, ranging from uneven digital maturity, fragmented government data, limited AI talent, governance integrity, human resource capacity, to cybersecurity and collaboration. Therefore, governance strengthening requires an integrated approach across government.
On the other hand, BPK still recommends a number of improvements in the 2025 audit results, including strengthening internal control systems, optimising state asset management, improving state revenue management, refining procurement of goods and services, and enhancing compliance with laws and regulations.
