Emphasising Discipline, Pramono to Ban Officials from Meetings if They Arrive Late
JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has emphasised the importance of work discipline at Jakarta City Hall. He is even prepared to ban officials from attending meetings if they arrive late.
He made this statement while attending the BUMD Leaders Forum 2026 in Ancol, North Jakarta, on Friday (17/4/2026).
Pramono said that repeated lateness cannot be tolerated.
According to Pramono, a disciplined attitude must start with the leadership. He claims to always arrive earlier than the scheduled start of meetings to encourage others to be punctual.
He also mentioned that meetings at City Hall are now more orderly and rarely overrun.
“I am not sure if City Hall meetings were ever on time before. Now, City Hall meetings never exceed five minutes late because the Governor always arrives early,” Pramono continued.
In addition to time management, Pramono gave another example, such as regularly using public transport every Wednesday. He said this is not just for show, but part of building good work habits.
“I have never violated this up to today. This is not about being seen by others, but about building a work culture,” he explained.
He also stressed the importance of open communication so that any emerging issues can be resolved quickly.
Nevertheless, he reminded that there are still internal problems, namely the high egos among officials that are seen to hinder communication.
“Our main problem is often the oversized egos among officials, including BUMD officials. Communication does not run smoothly,” Pramono revealed.
