Emotional Over Andrie Yunus's Interruption of TNI Law Meeting, Defendant: Overacting

A new fact has emerged in the trial concerning the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. One of the defendants, a member of the Headquarters Detachment (Denma) of TNI’s BAIS, Sergeant Two Edi Sudarko, admitted to becoming emotional after watching a viral video of Andrie interrupting a meeting discussing revisions to the TNI Law at the Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta. Edi made this admission during the trial at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday, 13 May 2026. Before the panel of judges, Edi revealed that conversations in the soldiers’ barracks had discussed actions against Andrie Yunus. There was even a proposal to douse the KontraS activist because the defendants were said to be equally emotional after watching the interruption video that went viral on social media. “After the three co-defendants watched the video, they immediately became emotional, then the second defendant said, don’t beat him, let’s just splash him,” stated Edi Sudarko in court. Edi admitted that he did not know Andrie Yunus personally. However, he said he often saw Andrie’s video content on social media and considered the activist’s attitude excessive. “Yes, in the viral video at the Fairmont Hotel, during a closed meeting of TNI and DPR officials discussing the law revision, Andrie Yunus was arrogant and overacting, interrupting and entering the meeting room even though it was a closed session,” he said. Although he felt annoyed, Edi emphasised that he was not at the location when the interruption occurred. He only learned about the incident from the video circulating widely on the internet. “I didn’t see it in the video,” he stated. According to Edi, he first expressed his emotions to co-defendant First Lieutenant Budhi Hariyanto Widhi on 9 March 2026 after congregational Zuhr prayers at the Al Ikhlas Mosque. In that conversation, Edi admitted feeling that Andrie’s actions had insulted the TNI institution. “I said that I felt annoyed watching the video where Andrie Yunus acted arrogantly and overacted; at that time at the Fairmont Hotel, there was no politeness. I considered it stepping on the TNI’s dignity,” he said. The discussion about Andrie continued on the night of 11 March 2026 at the TNI Headquarters barracks. At that time, co-defendants Captain Nandala Dwi Prasetyo and First Lieutenant Sami Lakka were also present. It was in that forum that Edi admitted expressing his desire to punch Andrie Yunus.
