Emotional Graduation Moment for Abdul Rohid, the Fallen Patriot Hero in Central Sulawesi

SURABAYA, KOMPAS.com - An emotional atmosphere enveloped the Grha Sepuluh Nopember at ITS Surabaya during the graduation ceremony of the patriot hero who fell in Bahari Tomini Raya, Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi (Sulteng). The hero in question was Abdul Rohid, a D4 student in Instrumentation Engineering at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), Surabaya, East Java. In his final days, he dedicated himself to serving as part of the Patriot Expedition Team (TEP) in the Bahari Tomini Raya transmigration area. As a final tribute, the Minister of Transmigration, M Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara, attended the graduation ceremony for Abdul Rohid at the ITS Grha on Saturday (18/04/2026). “The late Abdul Rohid actually had the choice to take an easier path. He was supposed to graduate in September last year, but he chose to postpone it all. Rohid chose to join the Patriot Transmigration programme. He chose to go to the field, he chose to serve. That was certainly not an ordinary decision; it was the decision of a patriot,” said Iftitah in his speech. Seated beside Iftitah were Abdul Rohid’s parents and his younger sister, Aprilia Nur Intan Saputri (16). The three appeared to be sobbing from the start of the ceremony. Especially April, who constantly held a photo of her brother. Abdul Rohid also left two final messages for his family. First, the government through the Ministry of Transmigration will provide full education scholarships to April until she graduates from vocational high school (SMK). “He (Abdul Rohid) wanted his sister, Intan Aprilia, to become a graduate. Today, after this graduation ceremony, the Ministry of Transmigration will hand over scholarship assistance to his sister until she graduates with a degree. And we appreciate the commitment from ITS to help bridge so that his sister can continue her education to higher education,” explained Iftitah. Iftitah personally will also send Abdul Rohid’s parents on Umrah pilgrimage, as was the late man’s dream during his lifetime. April said that the late brother was a cheerful and kind person. She felt proud to represent Abdul Rohid in receiving the diploma from the ITS Rector. “I’m emotional, proud, I miss my brother. I want to see my brother graduate wearing the same clothes as the other graduates,” April recounted.
