Emergency Technology and Early Warning Systems Showcased in Jakarta

The need for technology to deal with disasters continues to grow, from early warning systems to rescue equipment and emergency management. These various technologies were brought together at the Emergency Disaster Reduction & Rescue (EDRR) Expo Indonesia 2026, held at the Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) Kemayoran from 12 to 14 August 2026. The exhibition featured more than 80 companies from home and abroad offering technology and solutions for prevention, mitigation, emergency response, safety, and post-disaster recovery. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno stated that disaster technology must be matched by the ability to respond to early warnings quickly. According to him, a warning system is ineffective if the information received by the public is not immediately translated into action. ‘The Indonesian nation lives side by side with disasters, with nearly 5,000 disasters occurring each year. Therefore, we invite all parties to strengthen the Early Warning Action initiative. Early warning is only meaningful if it is followed by early action. Do not let advanced technology stop in the control room; information must become action that saves citizens,’ Pratikno said. EDRR Indonesia 2026 showcased various technological solutions related to these needs. Besides early warning systems, the exhibition covered safety equipment, firefighting systems, emergency medical technology, industrial safety solutions, and technology for handling maritime and archipelagic emergencies. The exhibition also serves as a space for industry players and the government to see opportunities for developing domestic disaster technology. Pratikno said Indonesia must not only be a user of technology but needs to build its own industrial and technological capacity. ‘Our target is clear: Indonesia to become a Center of Excellence for world disaster technology, not just a disaster laboratory, let alone a disaster supermarket. Indonesia wants to achieve technological independence and continue to push the domestic disaster industry,’ he said. According to Pratikno, this industrial development can be achieved through technology transfer cooperation, joint research, and investment. EDRR Indonesia 2026 is expected to connect government needs with the technological capabilities of industry players. From an international perspective, Fiona Bai, Vice President of Shanghai International Exhibition (Group) Co. Ltd (SIEC) - CPIT Shanghai, said technology exchange is one of the necessities for improving disaster management capacity in the region. ‘Through EDRR Indonesia 2026, we hope to build an efficient and sustainable cooperation bridge to promote technology exchange, high-level interconnection, and industrial integration. We want to share mature disaster prevention experience and smart, digital, and environmentally friendly emergency solutions to help strengthen emergency response capacity in Indonesia and Southeast Asia,’ Fiona emphasised. In addition to the technology exhibition, EDRR Indonesia 2026 presented a series of forums and activities discussing disaster preparedness, occupational safety, emergency medical services, firefighting, industrial safety, and cross-border investment cooperation. The series of activities included the S&D Global Safety and Development Conference, the Occupational Safety Preparedness Seminar (iSafety), the Early Warning Action Forum (AMPD), G60 Medical Industry Cooperation, the Smart Firefighting and Industrial Safety Forum, the Maritime and Archipelagic Emergency Synergy Forum, Business Matching, bilateral cooperation signings, and disaster management training and simulations. Seven Event CEO Andy Wismarsyah said the series of exhibitions and forums is expected to bring together technology players, the government, industry, and other stakeholders in developing disaster capacity. ‘EDRR Indonesia 2026 is not only here to showcase advanced innovation and technology but also to organise 10 strategic programmes as a space for sharing knowledge, strengthening capacity, encouraging innovation, and building collaborative networks to realise an Indonesia that is more prepared, resilient, safe, and responsive in facing various disaster risks,’ said Andy. The organisation of EDRR Indonesia 2026 received support from a number of ministries, government agencies, security institutions, universities, and humanitarian organisations. The event runs until 14 August 2026 at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.
