Emergency Repairs Underway After House Collapses on Ciliwung Riverbank in Benhil
The Central Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-department has carried out emergency measures at the site of a house collapse in the Bendungan Hilir (Benhil) area, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta. Officers installed dolken wooden piles and gabions to prevent potential subsequent landslides.
‘For the progress of the handling in Benhil, last night we handled the roadside, we used dolken piles to secure the road. Then this morning we are installing dolken piles and gabions on the side of the adjacent house that was affected yesterday, securing the collapsed part so it doesn’t subside further,’ said Citrin Indriati, Head of the Drainage Maintenance Section at the Central Jakarta SDA Sub-department, when contacted on Saturday (27/6/2026).
Citrin stated that the next stage of handling involves the installation of sheet pile or retaining wall along 60 metres. She said the retaining wall installation is intended to strengthen the Ciliwung River embankment.
‘Going forward, the agency, through the flood division, will reinforce the Ciliwung River embankment with the construction of sheet pile, approximately 60 metres in length,’ she said.
Furthermore, Citrin explained that the installation of the wooden dolken piles was carried out following a mediation process and coordination with the homeowner. She said the police line in the area was lifted last night to allow the handling process to proceed.
‘Last night our leadership mediated with the sub-district authorities and the homeowner. After the police line was opened last night, we immediately followed up by securing the roadside, using dolken piles to secure the road. Then this morning we took direct action on the side of the house, next to the house,’ she said.
Triggered by Abrasion
For context, the owner of the collapsed house had been evacuated since Friday (19/6). There were no fatalities or injuries resulting from the incident.
Joint officers also visited the location. The house collapse was caused by abrasion along the West Flood Canal (BKB).
‘The suspected cause is abrasion on the banks of the West Flood Canal,’ explained the Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD).
In addition to the boarding house, a waste disposal site was also affected by the event. The moments of the house collapse were captured by CCTV cameras around the location, and the video went viral on social media.
