Emergency Relief Flows from State-Owned Insurer for NTT Disaster Victims
PT Asuransi Kredit Indonesia (Persero), or Askrindo, has distributed emergency relief for victims of the earthquake that struck Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), coinciding with the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence.
Askrindo President Director M Fankar Umran said the company interprets independence as a foundation for carrying out acts of national humanitarian solidarity.
“We are committed to continuing to support the recovery process until the people of Flores Island can rise again with a resilient spirit of independence,” Fankar said in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday (17/8).
The emergency relief was handed over to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) of East Nusa Tenggara Province. Askrindo provided basic necessities for displaced people, including medicines, staple foods, basic sanitation logistics equipment and baby supplies.
Fankar said the company is committed to remaining present in the community, not only as a business institution but also as a partner that plays an active role in supporting social recovery, human resource development and community resilience in various regions of Indonesia.
“Askrindo will continue to coordinate intensively with BNPB NTT Province to ensure all assistance can be distributed safely, quickly and on target,” he said.
Meanwhile, BNPB reported that infrastructure affected by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in NTT is gradually recovering. In a press conference followed online in Jakarta on Monday (17/8), Acting Head of BNPB’s Data, Information and Disaster Communication Centre, Berton SP Panjaitan, said electricity conditions in West Flores and East Flores, sourced from 11 affected substations, have now returned to 100 per cent operation.
Road access in NTT is now generally passable, although still on a limited basis. In the search and rescue sector, Berton said a joint team from Basarnas and relevant ministries and agencies remains on standby in seven affected districts.
