Embassy Statement: Mojtaba Khamenei's Selection Proves Iran Does Not Depend on a Single Figure
Iran’s Embassy of the Islamic Republic in Jakarta has issued a formal statement regarding the latest political and security developments affecting the nation. Amid escalating conflict with the United States and the Zionist regime, Iran has announced the appointment of Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the Third Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“This selection once again demonstrates that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not depend on a single individual, but rather is a system based on the rule of law, the voice of the people, and divine values,” the official statement released on Monday, 9 March 2026, declared.
The selection was made by the Assembly of Leadership Experts (Council of Leadership Experts) following the martyrdom of Ayatollah al-Udzma Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei in an attack conducted by forces aligned with the United States and Israel. In this process of internal democracy, Mojtaba Khamenei secured support from more than 85 per cent of council members’ votes.
The Iranian Embassy emphasised that this swift and constitutional transition of leadership conveys a powerful message to the international community.
“Despite the loss of a great leader, numerous senior officials, and senior military commanders, this system will continue its path with steadfastness and strength under a new and worthy leadership,” the official statement noted.
Members of the Council of Leadership Experts are figures directly elected by the people through national general elections for terms of eight years. Under Articles 107 and 108 of Iran’s Constitution, they continue to fulfil their constitutional duties despite facing risks and threats of attack.
“The council’s swift action is seen as a comfort to the Iranian people who are mourning whilst observing fasting during the month of Ramadan,” the statement added.
Under the command of Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei’s leadership, Iran has immediately taken firm steps to protect its territorial sovereignty. The Embassy confirmed that the 30th phase of Operation “True Promise 4” has been carried out against Zionist territories as a form of self-defence.
Iran reaffirmed its legal right under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter to maintain territorial integrity against aggression that has resulted in the loss of civilian lives and damage to vital infrastructure. Since the attack began on 28 February 2026, more than 1,300 civilians, including children, have been reported martyred.
