Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Embassy in Phnom Penh said 686 Indonesian citizens undergoing deportation proceedings at the Bati Immigration Detention Centre in Cambodia were in good condition.

In a written statement received in Jakarta on Friday, the embassy said it visited the detention centre on 14 October to provide consular assistance and check on the Indonesians awaiting deportation. They had previously been involved in online scam and gambling activities.

“There are currently 686 Indonesians undergoing deportation proceedings at the Bati Immigration Detention Centre. This includes 547 of the 550 Indonesians previously held at a temporary detention facility in Kong Va, Serei Saophoan, Banteay Meanchey Province,” the statement said.

The embassy said the Indonesians had been detained during an operation targeting online scams and gambling in the city of Poipet on 4 October 2026.

Krishnajie Partadireja, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh, urged all Indonesians in Cambodia to comply with the country’s laws and regulations.

“The embassy urges all Indonesians in Cambodia not to engage in unlawful activities, including online scams and gambling,” Krishnajie said.

The embassy is continuing to encourage Indonesians who still have passports to complete the process of returning to Indonesia as soon as possible. For those without passports, it will facilitate the issuance of an Emergency Travel Document (SPLP).

Krishnajie also expressed hope that Indonesians whose return had been facilitated would not go back to Cambodia.

“For Indonesians who have returned to Indonesia, we hope they will not return to Cambodia to engage in illegal activities again,” he said.

As of 14 October 2026, 1,201 Indonesians were still being held in detention facilities in various parts of Cambodia. The embassy said it was continuing to coordinate with local authorities to enable them to return to Indonesia as soon as possible.

Since 1 October 2026, the Cambodian government has imposed a ban on online gambling operations, expanding its crackdown on online scams to target the operation of online gambling as well.

The embassy also said that, in addition to Indonesians detained in raids, the number of people reporting directly to the embassy in Phnom Penh continued to rise.

From January to 14 October 2026, the embassy received 13,574 former members of online scam and gambling networks who came in person to seek assistance returning to Indonesia. It has helped 8,640 Indonesians return home.
