Emaar and Indonesian Government extend JV to develop The Lombok Project by six months
In a perverted sort of way, this Lombok Project fits perfectly the Arabs and the Indonesians. Both are Muslims, both like to pretend they lead a life according to the Koran, and both like to find a safe place to get away and drink, party and monger with pretty girls.
What a better place that some obscure corner of a secluded island in Indonesia? The government controls over 2000 hectare - so no problem acquiring the land. It is an absolutely beautiful piece of property - right on the ocean with mountains and sandy beaches... perfect for golf courses, water sports, and (of course) gambling casinos. The Indonesian government is corrupt and Emaar looks to have a lot of sources of money to get around the "rules".
You put that together and you get the perfect place for Arabs to get out of the public eye and spend their petro-bucks in a far off island.
The Lombok airport is slowly but surely moving ahead - and it will unquestionably be the largest airport in Indonesia. Right now the terminal looks to be about the size of Taiwan or one terminal of Singapore Airport. It can handle all the jumbo jets that Qatar Air can fly into the backward island which is poor as dirt.
If Arabs and Indonesians can get their collective sh't together there is a lot of money to be made from this project. I'm not saying it will happen, only that it has the potential to make a lot of money. As crazy as it all may sound, the little desert watering hole called the UAE, and the ultra-backward island (which is about the same size) called Lombok, could form a make a real cash cow!
