Elon Musk proposes collaboration plan for chip manufacturing
Jakarta - Businessman Elon Musk has proposed a collaboration plan for chip manufacturing between his companies, Tesla and SpaceX. TechCrunch on Sunday (22/3) quoted a Bloomberg report stating that Musk conveyed these ambitious plans on Saturday night (21/3) at an event in downtown Austin, Texas, United States. At the event, Musk also displayed a photo of a facility referred to as “Terafab”, which is planned to be built near Tesla’s headquarters in Austin and its “gigafactory.” The entrepreneur who co-founded companies such as Tesla, SpaceX, and Neuralink is seeking to realise this project because he believes current semiconductor manufacturers are not yet capable of producing chips fast enough to meet the needs of artificial intelligence and robotics in his companies. “We are building Terafab or we won’t have chips, and we need chips, so we are building Terafab,” he said. However, Musk has not disclosed the schedule for implementing the chip production plan. According to Bloomberg’s notes, Musk has no background in semiconductor manufacturing.
