Elnusa Petrofin Supports B50 Mandate with First Industrial Biodiesel Distribution
PT Elnusa Petrofin (EPN), a subsidiary of Pertamina Group, has commenced the inaugural distribution of B50 industrial biodiesel from the Fuel Terminal IBT Pulau Laut in South Kalimantan. This move is part of the company’s support for the national mandatory B50 programme, which aims to accelerate the energy transition and bolster energy independence through the increased use of domestic biofuel.
This distribution follows the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Decree No. 257.K/EK.01/MEM.E/2026, which mandates a 50 percent biodiesel blend in diesel fuel. As part of the Pertamina Group’s energy logistics ecosystem, Elnusa Petrofin plays a crucial role in ensuring terminal operational readiness, the blending process, and the distribution of B50 products to industrial customers, particularly the mining sector.
The first delivery of Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) with B50 specifications was received via the MT Ocean Link vessel on 1 July 2026. The subsequent distribution of the blended B50 industrial diesel was carried out on 2 July 2026 to the OB Ocean Brave vessel for the customer VHS Patra Logistik.
Doni Indrawan, President Director of PT Elnusa Petrofin, stated that this initial distribution represents Pertamina Group’s collaborative effort to support the government’s strategic agenda for sustainable national energy independence. He noted that the company is proud to contribute to the reliable, safe, and sustainable transformation of energy, particularly for the mining sector, which is a vital part of the national economy.
Indrawan added that the successful implementation demonstrates the readiness of the infrastructure and operational capabilities managed by Elnusa Petrofin. The company is committed to maintaining operational excellence and superior health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE) standards, with integrated technology, human resource competency, and operational governance forming the foundation for efficient future energy distribution.
The Fuel Terminal IBT Pulau Laut, managed by Elnusa Petrofin, is a strategic facility in the national energy supply chain. It is equipped with an Automatic Inline Blending (ILB) facility that allows the biodiesel mixing process to occur automatically within the pipeline at a flow capacity of 250 to 1,000 kilolitres per hour. This technology ensures the B50 blending process is precise, efficient, and meets government quality standards before direct delivery to customer vessels.
The implementation of B50 aligns with Pertamina’s broader strategy to accelerate the energy transition and support national decarbonisation targets. By increasing the biofuel mix, Pertamina is strengthening the use of new and renewable energy, adding value to the national palm oil industry, reducing dependence on fossil energy imports, and reinforcing Indonesia’s energy self-sufficiency.
