Elite TNI Units Reveal Four Covert Capabilities for Battlefield Dominance
Pontianak — Indonesian Air Force’s Rapid Reaction Corps (Korpasgat) continuously enhances combat capabilities and operational readiness of personnel through freefall parachute training at Supadio Airport in West Kalimantan. The exercise involved personnel from the 466th Battalion and 15th Artillery Battalion of Korpasgat, supported by a NAS-332 Super Puma helicopter from the 6th Air Squadron of the Indonesian Air Force.
Commander of the 466th Parachute Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Adim Dwi Prasanda, accompanied by Commander of the 15th Artillery Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Erean Hidayat, stated the training was conducted during flight breaks to avoid disrupting air traffic at Supadio Airport. The entire training sequence was executed with high precision and strict military discipline as part of routine development for freefall-qualified personnel within Korpasgat.
According to Adim, the training aims to hone four capabilities:
Combat instinct: Soldiers’ ability to react in real combat situations. In modern military operations, the capacity to make rapid decisions while airborne is crucial as personnel must assess situations, determine landing zones, and adapt to threats within short timeframes.
Landing capabilities in varying weather and wind conditions: Troops are trained to handle changing weather dynamics to ensure precise and safe airborne infiltration. This skill is vital for special operations and missions in challenging terrains.
Equipment readiness and airborne safety procedures: All personnel are required to meticulously inspect parachutes, communication devices, combat gear, and safety protocols before jumping. These steps are essential to minimise risks and ensure mission success.
Air infiltration and special operations: ‘Additionally, the training is crucial for supporting air infiltration and special operations capabilities, a key strength of the elite Indonesian Air Force units,’ Adim said. Air infiltration is one of the most critical skills of Korpasgat elite forces. In military operations, it involves rapidly, quietly, and precisely inserting personnel into target areas via air to execute special missions, typically used when ground access is difficult or rapid troop movement is required.
