Elephants march through Ancol

JAKARTA (JP): Fifteen elephants from Way Kambas, South Sumatra, are scheduled to parade through Ancol Dreamland Park in North Jakarta to celebrate Jakarta's 470th anniversary on June 21.

"The elephants will be accompanied by traditional Betawi and Balinese music," a press release from the park said.

A fireworks display was also planned for the festivities, in addition to several popular entertainers.

At Dunia Fantasi amusement park, a cheerleader contest concludes today. Other anniversary activities will take place until July 20.

A statement from the public relations office of Ancol Dreamland Park said that 1,800 security personnel would secure festivities for Jakarta's anniversary, expected to attract around 80,000 visitors. (anr)
