Elephants at it again

LIWA, Lampung: A herd of wild elephants have wrecked havoc at several villages here which have barely been rebuilt following the fatal and devastating earthquake early this year.

Dozens of elephants, believed to have strayed from the Bukit Barisan National Park, have been attacking villages, devouring plants and destroying house recently rebuilt, according to the Antara news agency.

There were no reports of casualty but some 250 families in five villages in Liwa are living in constant fear of new attacks by the wild elephants, according to local village leaders. (emb)
