Elementary school teachers
Elementary school teachers
From Suara Karya
Ever since the government decided that elementary school teachers should possess a Diploma II certificate, many graduates from the Teachers Training School have shifted into other professions such as food sellers, drivers or even becak (rickshaw) drivers. What an irony! They took up any job to survive disregarding their educational background.
Those who continue to work as honorary elementary school teachers must be prepared to face a gloomy future. Their pay is far from promising, and have no chance of being appointed as civil servants.
The salaries of elementary school teachers are not sufficient to support their families for a whole month. And once they reach 60 they have to retire and live on the pension. In fact, the teaching profession is not very promising. Teaching in most elementary schools does not even require a tertiary education.
