Despite rising pressure from price inflation, particularly after the fuel price hikes in May, the Electronics Marketer Club's (EMC) monthly report shows that electronics sales increased in July.
In July, electronic retailers and distributors were able to generate Rp 1.86 trillion (US$202.7 million) in sales value, or an increase of five percent compared to a month earlier and 44.7 percent compared to a year earlier.
The total sales in terms of units within the month reached 1.18 million units, rising by 24.7 percent compared to July 2007.
Consequently, the total sales of electronics within the first seven months of this year reached 7.48 million units or up 20.64 percent compared to the same period last year.
This year's total sales value as of the end of July reached Rp 10.6 trillion, rising by 26.49 percent from Rp 8.38 trillion in the first seven months last year.
According to the EMC report, the main contributors to the July sales were: washing machines, which saw a yearly increase of 42.4 percent, water pumps, up 39.2 percent, video and disc players, up 31.5 percent, and air conditioners, up 29.6 percent. (***)
