JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police is continuously accelerating digital transformation in vehicle registration and identification services (Regident). One major change being prepared is the elimination of manual processes in vehicle name transfer administration following the nationwide implementation of the electronic Vehicle Ownership Book or e-BPKB. This policy is part of the modernisation of public services to make vehicle administration processes faster, more transparent, and efficient. “Specifically in the Regident sector, related to vehicle registration, especially for new vehicles, in recent developments, we are required to shift from manual to online or digitalisation,” said Sumardji, in a written statement on Monday (11/5/2026). Currently, this digital transformation is being implemented through the use of digital invoices and digital physical checks in the new vehicle registration process. This system is expected to facilitate the public while speeding up vehicle administration. “Thus, in the future, all vehicle registration systems will no longer use manual registration; everything will be digitalised,” added Police Commissioner Sumardji. Not only that, the National Traffic Corps is also preparing the implementation of e-BPKB or electronic Vehicle Ownership Book as a replacement for the paper BPKB that has been used by the public so far. “Regarding the use of materials, we are striving not to use paper BPKB materials, but rather e-BPKB. And as of 1 January 2027, everything will use e-BPKB,” said Sumardji. This digitalisation of Regident services is expected to bring more modern and practical services to the public, while reducing the potential for administrative errors in handling motor vehicle documents.
