JAKARTA – The digital transformation in the motor vehicle administration sector continues. One major step being prepared is the nationwide implementation of the Electronic Vehicle Ownership Book (e-BPKB).

Director of Registration and Identification (Dirregident) of the National Police Traffic Corps, Brigadier General Wibowo, stated that the implementation of e-BPKB is currently being carried out gradually in various regions.

“Meanwhile, for the Metro Jaya Police, we apply it to all vehicles,” said Wibowo to Kompas.com (14/4/2026).

“But for other police regions, we are only handling four-wheeled vehicles for now while awaiting procurement this year,” he added.

The Electronic Vehicle Ownership Book or e-BPKB is the digital version of the Vehicle Ownership Book, which has previously been in physical document form.

Although called “electronic”, vehicle owners still receive a physical form, but it is equipped with a chip or digital technology that stores important vehicle information.

This system is designed to improve data security, minimise forgery, and facilitate administrative processes such as mutations or name transfers.

“Yes, by 2028, it is hoped that all new vehicles will be covered by the Electronic Vehicle Ownership Book,” said Wibowo.

With this target, every new vehicle registered in the future will directly use the e-BPKB system, gradually replacing conventional documents.

In addition to increasing efficiency, this system is also expected to provide better protection for vehicle owners in terms of legality and data security.

Although still in the development and procurement stage in several regions, the direction of this policy indicates that in the future, vehicle document management will become increasingly practical, secure, and digitally integrated.
