Electrification Duel: Veloz Hybrid vs BYD M6, Who is the Winner?
JAKARTA — The competition for electrified family cars in Indonesia is becoming increasingly interesting. The Toyota Veloz Hybrid and BYD M6 have emerged as two models capturing significant market attention. Despite utilising different technologies, both successfully recorded high sales figures throughout April 2026. These results indicate that hybrid cars still maintain great appeal in Indonesia, even as the trend for pure electric vehicles begins to develop rapidly.
Toyota has chosen a gradual electrification approach through hybrid technology, whereas BYD has entered the market directly with a pure electric MPV that offers a driving experience entirely free from petrol. Interestingly, both vehicles target the family market with three-row passenger configurations and spacious cabins. However, the characteristics they offer are quite distinct.
The Toyota Veloz Hybrid is presented as a Low MPV with relatively compact dimensions. Its body length is approximately 4,475 mm with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. This character makes the Veloz Hybrid feel practical for daily urban use, offering an easier turning radius and a less bulky body while remaining comfortable as a family car. On the other hand, the BYD M6 appears more substantial. This electric MPV has a length of approximately 4,710 mm with a wheelbase of 2,800 mm.
