Electricity to be Cut at UI Depok Campus This Afternoon
The University of Indonesia (UI) has announced a scheduled power outage today. The announcement was made by UI via its Instagram account, @univ_indonesia, on Friday (19/6/2026). “Announcement: power outage at UI Depok Campus, Friday, 19 June 2026, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. WIB,” the notice stated. UI said the outage is due to maintenance activities on the PLN main substation. UI added that the blackout excludes the University of Indonesia Hospital (RSUI) and the Health Sciences Cluster Building (RIK). “We urge all academic community members, educational staff, and campus service users to adjust activities requiring electricity supply during this period.” Previously, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia confirmed there are no plans for nationwide power cuts in the future. “God willing, no,” Bahlil said when confirmed by journalists at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta, Thursday (18/6/2026). Bahlil and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto have discussed strategies to ensure maximum electricity services for the public. One of the discussions concerned the compensation and subsidy payment scheme for PT PLN (Persero) so that the company has adequate financial capacity to supply electricity. “So, in general, it has been discussed, there is no problem,” he said. He also explained that PLN’s total coal requirement reaches 154 million metric tons per year. So far, PLN has secured contracts for 134 million tons, leaving a shortfall of only around 20 million tons. The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources has also formed a medium-calorie coal procurement team to overcome PLN’s constraints in meeting power plant needs. “In order to supervise primary energy so this does not continue, we have formed a procurement team. PLN, the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal, and BPKP,” Bahlil said during a Working Meeting with Commission XII of the DPR RI at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (15/6/2026).
