The government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), has officially set electricity tariffs for PT PLN (Persero) for the third quarter of 2026 without any increase. The policy, effective from July to September 2026, covers 13 non-subsidised customer groups.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia emphasised that this step was taken as a strategic effort to maintain public purchasing power, strengthen the competitiveness of the industrial sector, and provide business certainty in Indonesia. The decision was announced in Jakarta on Tuesday (30/6).

Based on Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 7 of 2024, tariff adjustments for non-subsidised customers are actually carried out every three months. This adjustment refers to the realisation of four main macroeconomic parameters: the Rupiah exchange rate, the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the Reference Coal Price (HBA). For the third quarter of 2026, the data used is the average realisation for the period February to April 2026. Although the accumulation of changes in these parameters should have triggered a tariff increase according to the formula, the government chose to intervene for the sake of national economic stability.

“To maintain public purchasing power and support national economic stability, the government has decided that electricity tariffs for the third quarter of 2026 will remain unchanged,” said Bahlil. In addition to the non-subsidised groups, he also confirmed that 24 subsidised customer groups will not experience any tariff changes. The government is committed to continuing to distribute electricity subsidies to those in need.

“The government is committed to providing reliable, affordable, and equitable electricity. This fixed tariff policy is part of efforts to maintain economic stability while ensuring sustainable electricity services,” he added. Along with this policy, the Ministry of ESDM has instructed PT PLN (Persero) to continue optimising operational efficiency and maintaining the reliability of electricity supply across all regions of Indonesia. The government also urges the public to play an active role in supporting national energy resilience by using electricity wisely and efficiently. This measure is expected to help maintain a balance between energy availability and national economic sustainability.
