Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has confirmed that electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026 (April-June) will not increase. This policy provides certainty for the public ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.

The government has adopted this policy to protect consumer purchasing power, particularly amid increased demand during Ramadan and Eid celebrations.

Tri Winarno, Acting Director General of Electricity at the ESDM Ministry, stated that the decision to freeze tariffs was based on applicable regulations and consideration of the public’s economic conditions.

“The public need not worry, as the government has set electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026 at their current level. This decision has been made to protect consumer purchasing power ahead of Eid al-Fitr, following calculations of various macroeconomic parameters. The government also urges the public to use electricity efficiently and wisely as part of a collective effort to support national energy security,” Winarno said on Tuesday (17 March 2026).

Under ESDM Ministerial Regulation Number 7 of 2024 concerning Electricity Tariffs Provided by PT PLN (Persero), tariff adjustments for 13 non-subsidised customer categories are evaluated every three months based on changes in macroeconomic parameters, including the rupiah-to-US dollar exchange rate, Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the Coal Reference Price (HBA).

For the second quarter of 2026, the macroeconomic parameters used reflect the period from November 2025 to January 2026: an exchange rate of Rp16,743.46 per US dollar, ICP of USD 62.78 per barrel, inflation of 0.22 per cent, and HBA of USD 70 per ton in accordance with coal domestic market obligation policy.

Based on these parameter calculations, electricity tariffs would have been subject to change under the existing formula. However, to maintain industrial competitiveness, consumer purchasing power, and national economic stability amid global conditions, the government has decided to keep electricity tariffs unchanged. The same applies to the 25 subsidised customer categories, which will also see no changes.

The ESDM Ministry has also urged PT PLN (Persero) to maintain reliable electricity supply, improve service quality to customers, and optimise operational efficiency to ensure reliable and sustainable electricity provision.
