Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has officially set that PT PLN (Persero)’s electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026 (April-June) will not experience any increases or changes. The electricity tariff freeze policy applies to both non-subsidised and subsidised customers.

Acting Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of ESDM, Tri Winarno, explained that this decision was taken as a form of state intervention to maintain the stability of public purchasing power while supporting national industrial competitiveness amid global economic dynamics.

“The public need not worry, as the Government has set the electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026 to remain the same. This determination is made to safeguard public purchasing power. The Government also urges the public to use electricity efficiently and wisely,” Tri stated in a written release on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

In accordance with the provisions of Ministry of ESDM Regulation Number 7 of 2024, adjustments to electricity tariffs for non-subsidised customers are normally evaluated every three months based on four macroeconomic indicators, namely the rupiah exchange rate (exchange rate), Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and Reference Coal Price (HBA).

Based on the formula from those four parameters, there was actually potential for electricity tariff changes. However, the government ultimately decided not to raise the tariffs to maintain national economic stability.

In response to this determination, PLN’s President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that his company is ready to implement the government’s instructions. He also assured that the reliability of electricity supply for all customers will be maintained optimally amid current geopolitical uncertainties.

“Amid dynamic global geopolitical conditions, we appreciate the Government’s step in maintaining electricity tariff stability for the second quarter of 2026. This policy provides certainty for the public and the business world, and demonstrates the state’s presence in safeguarding purchasing power and national competitiveness,” Darmawan emphasised in an official statement.

Darmawan added that PLN is fully committed to supporting this policy by continuing to expand equitable access to electricity and improving the company’s operational efficiency from upstream to downstream.
