Electricity tariffs (2)
Electricity tariffs (2)
From Republika
The government is going to raise the price of electricity. This is a great concern to the common people. The rich will not be affected by the increase and the producers will automatically adjust the prices of their products. The civil servants of the higher echelon will not bother because they can earn extra money, either fair or foul, through development projects.
I understand the government's effort to provide electricity for every village. At present only 40 percent of the population enjoys electricity. So the government has to solve the problem by raising the electricity tariffs, disregarding the nature of the consumers. The government should review its decision bearing in mind that there are different types of consumers -- entrepreneurs, factories, hotels, banks, houses etc. Or the government should tax luxuries like parabola antennae and videos.
