Electricity Restoration in 3 Disaster-Affected Provinces Reaches 99.90 Percent
Electricity services in three provinces affected by hydrometeorological disasters in Sumatra are reported to be almost fully restored. The Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) records that the restoration of the electricity network has reached 99.90 percent.
Satgas PRR Chairman Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that electricity is crucial infrastructure to support community life and accelerate economic recovery in disaster-affected areas.
“(The restoration of) electricity can be said to be 99.90 percent. Because there are isolated areas where the roads have collapsed, so they cannot yet receive electricity supply, but (residents) have been provided with generators. This is important; electricity is very crucial. Thank you to the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and PLN,” Tito said in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/3).
Based on Satgas PRR data post-Sumatra disaster as of 6 April 2026, electricity conditions in Aceh Province and West Sumatra have fully recovered, with all areas reconnected to electricity. Meanwhile, in North Sumatra, restoration is still being rushed despite several obstacles in certain areas.
A total of 54 customers in two villages in North Sumatra, namely Siantar Naipospos Village and Pardomuan Nauli Village, are still not fully connected to the electricity network due to access affected by the disaster. However, the community’s electricity needs are still met through support from portable generators from PLN.
Efforts to rehabilitate the electricity network in affected areas are also ongoing. The construction of a 17.5-kilometre medium-voltage network and the installation of four transformers each with a capacity of 50 kVA have now reached 77.82 percent progress, or about 13.62 kilometres. This work has been accelerated again after the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday.
On the other hand, Satgas PRR is also quick to respond to disruptions due to subsequent disasters.
Flooding that occurred on 19 March 2026 temporarily caused outages in the North Tapanuli area, affecting four substations and 54 customers. However, quick handling on the ground ensured that the impact could be minimised.
The restoration of the electricity sector becomes an important foundation in encouraging community activities to return to normal. With electricity back on, public services, economic activities, and the social life of affected communities can run more optimally.
Satgas PRR emphasises that it will continue to oversee the acceleration of infrastructure recovery, including electricity, until all affected areas are truly restored.
Collaboration between the central government, regional governments, and state-owned enterprises such as PLN is the main key in ensuring that no community is left behind in the post-disaster recovery process.
