Electricity Load During Nyepi in Bali Predicted to Drop by Up to 400 MW
Electricity consumption in Bali is predicted to decline by up to 400 megawatts (MW) during the Nyepi religious celebration falling on 19 March 2026. The state utility PLN attributed the reduction in electrical load to decreased demand from the residential sector, hospitality establishments, and restaurants.
“Our prediction is approximately 300-400 MW during the Nyepi celebration,” said I Wayan Eka Susana, Manager of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility at PT PLN (Persero) UID Bali, on Friday 13 March 2026.
Susana explained that PLN will not conduct any power cuts during the Nyepi celebration in Bali except in emergency conditions. Furthermore, PLN has also prepared protocols for managing electricity disruptions at hospitals and other critical facilities.
“There will be coordination with traditional village councils and customary security personnel to assist our crews should emergency electrical problems occur, ensuring smooth operations and swift resolution of critical electricity issues,” he added.
Susana predicted that the peak electricity usage during the Nyepi and Lebaran holiday period this year would occur on 17 March 2026, with total electrical load projected to reach 1,194 MW.
“Peak usage is predicted at approximately 1,194 MW on 17 March 2026 with a reserve margin of approximately 127 MW. Therefore, we anticipate very secure conditions during these two festive periods,” Susana stated.
Beyond ensuring electricity supply, PT PLN (Persero) has established several security posts to support smooth Lebaran exodus and return journeys. Three posts have been set up in the Gilimanuk, Tabanan, and Karangasem areas.
PLN has also prepared public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) distributed across 93 locations to support citizens using electric vehicles. “Furthermore, there are 142 charging points across 93 locations to serve the public using electric vehicles,” he concluded.
