Electricity Bill aims to strengthen power reliability and energy transition

The Draft Law (RUU) on the Third Amendment to Law Number 30 of 2009 on Electricity is expected to strengthen the reliability of the electricity system while accelerating the transition towards clean energy in Lampung Province and nationally. This expectation emerged during a specific working visit by the House of Representatives’ (DPR) Commission XII through the Electricity Bill Working Committee (Panja) at the office of PT PLN Lampung Distribution Main Unit (UID), which involved the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), PT PLN (Persero), PT Bukit Asam, the University of Lampung (Unila), the Sumatera Institute of Technology (ITERA), as well as academics and experts. The Head of the Legislative Working Visit Team of DPR Commission XII, Putri Zulkifli Hasan, confirmed in Bandarlampung on Wednesday that the drafting of the Electricity Bill must be able to accommodate developments in the energy sector while answering future challenges. “Input from the government, academics, state-owned enterprises, and all stakeholders is an important foundation for presenting regulations that strengthen national energy security, encourage the development of new and renewable energy, and realise a reliable, equitable, and sustainable electricity system,” she said. Meanwhile, the Director of Coal-Fired Generation Operations at PT PLN Nusantara Power (PLN NP), M. Irwansyah Putra, stated that the refinement of electricity regulations needs to anticipate technological developments and the needs of the national electricity system. This includes the digitalisation of electricity through the implementation of smart grids, data governance, and protection against cyber threats so that the national electricity system becomes more reliable and ready to support the energy transition. General Manager of PLN UID Lampung, Rizky Mochamad, conveyed that PLN welcomes the drafting process of the Electricity Bill as a strategic step in strengthening the foundation of the national electricity sector. According to him, adaptive regulations will provide certainty for the development of electricity infrastructure while accelerating the energy transition. “PLN is committed to providing a reliable, high-quality electricity supply capable of supporting regional economic growth. The refinement of the Electricity Bill is expected to strengthen the national electricity ecosystem, provide certainty in clean energy development, and improve service quality to the public,” said Rizky. Strong regulation will serve as an important foundation for delivering increasingly reliable electricity services while supporting the investment climate and regional economic growth. Through synergy between the government, the DPR, businesses, universities, and all stakeholders, PLN is optimistic that the refinement of the Electricity Bill will produce regulations that are more adaptive to technological developments, strengthen national energy security, and accelerate the realisation of a reliable, equitable, and sustainable Indonesian electricity system.
