Electrical Short Circuit During Repairs Triggers Fire on Three Vessels in Muara Angke

The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) suspects a fire that gutted three vessels docked at Muara Angke Pier, Pluit, North Jakarta, on Sunday morning was triggered by an electrical short circuit during repair work. “Information from witnesses indicates the fire was sparked by an electrical short circuit while the vessel was undergoing repairs,” said Gulkarmat Operations Section Head Gatot Sulaeman in Jakarta on Sunday. According to witness accounts, they saw smoke billowing from a vessel that was undergoing repairs or docking at the location. Witnesses then attempted to seek help from nearby residents. However, the fire grew larger and they called the fire brigade. “A total of three vessels were burned,” he said. The North Jakarta and Thousand Islands Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the vessels that caught fire while docked at Muara Angke Pier on Jalan Dermaga Ujung 1 Blok Empang, Pluit Village, Pluit District, on Sunday morning. “Officers received information about the fire at 8.37 a.m. Western Indonesian Time,” said Gatot Sulaeman. At the time, officers were still battling to extinguish the fire at the scene. A total of 12 fire engines with 65 personnel were deployed to the location to put out the blaze that engulfed the wooden vessels. Firefighters began operations at 8.50 a.m. and the fire was only successfully extinguished at 11.52 a.m. “It took three hours to ensure the fire on the vessels could be put out. Thank God the fire is now out,” he said.
