Electric Vehicles Remain Tax-Free and Exempt from Odd-Even Scheme in Jakarta
The Jakarta Provincial Government has confirmed that it will continue to uphold fiscal incentives for battery-based electric vehicles. The policy includes exemptions from Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Motor Vehicle Transfer Tax (BBNKB), as well as exemption from the odd-even traffic restrictions.
Head of the Jakarta Regional Revenue Agency, Lusiana Herawati, stated that the regional policy direction follows the provisions of the central government. The policy refers to Circular Letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs Number 900.1.13.1/3764/SJ regarding the provision of fiscal incentives for electric vehicles.
“Following the issuance of the Minister of Home Affairs’ circular on fiscal incentives in the form of exemptions from PKB and BBNKB for battery-based electric motor vehicles, the DKI Provincial Government’s policy aligns with those provisions, namely continuing to provide incentives in the form of PKB and BBNKB exemptions for battery-based electric vehicles,” she said in a press release on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.
Lusiana noted that this policy is part of efforts to encourage the use of low-emission vehicles in Jakarta. She assessed that fiscal incentives are necessary to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles while strengthening the clean energy ecosystem at the regional level.
On the other hand, Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, stated that the exemption of electric vehicles from the odd-even rules will continue to be implemented. This policy is deemed relevant to support air pollution control and encourage changes in public behaviour in choosing modes of transportation.
“We are maintaining the odd-even exemption policy for battery-based electric vehicles. This is part of efforts to promote the use of more environmentally friendly vehicles, in line with commitments to reduce emissions and strengthen a sustainable urban transportation system,” he said.
Syafrin added that the development of electric vehicles needs to be placed within a broader framework of urban mobility. He emphasised the importance of strengthening public transportation and policy consistency on environmental matters so that emission reduction targets can be achieved gradually.
