JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – PT PLN (Persero) has revealed that the use of electric vehicles (EVs) during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr exodus period experienced a significant surge. PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo stated that the increase in users did not disrupt the smooth travel of holidaymakers. Overall, the flow of the exodus using electric vehicles proceeded well. He explained that this smoothness serves as an important note in the development of the national electric vehicle ecosystem, particularly in terms of the readiness of SPKLU infrastructure. The company’s records show that during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr exodus and return period, specifically on 23 March 2026, the number of electric vehicle transactions reached 18,088, with energy consumption of 427,980 kilowatt-hours (kWh). Both indicators increased 4.15 times compared to the same period the previous year, which recorded 4,360 transactions and 103,010 kWh. In the future, the number of SPKLU stations will continue to be added in line with the increasing needs of users. PLN is also opening greater opportunities for the private sector to participate in accelerating the construction of charging infrastructure. From a business perspective, Darmawan assessed that SPKLU is now increasingly prospective. This is driven by increasingly competitive tariffs and rising utilisation rates. “So, if in the past they built it and it didn’t sell, now building it sells and there’s profit,” said Darmawan. Currently, PLN has partnered with various entities to expand the SPKLU network. The charging infrastructure is being built in strategic locations, ranging from office areas, banking, hospitals, shopping centres, to public facility parking areas.
