Electric Vehicle Tax Changes Threaten Correction in Used Car Market

JAKARTA – Changes to electric vehicle tax policies, which are no longer fully exempt, are beginning to raise concerns in the automotive market, including the used car segment. Although the impact is not yet felt, business players assess that the potential for a price correction in the used electric vehicle market is quite open.

As is known, electric vehicles previously received various incentives, including tax relief. However, with the latest regulations, that scheme is starting to change and could potentially affect consumer decisions in both the new and used car markets.

Andi, owner of the used car business Jordy Mobil at MGK Kemayoran, said the impact on the used market is likely to emerge, but not visible in the near term.

According to him, as long as the amount of the new tax has not been fully implemented or known for certain, consumers tend to hold back from making decisions.

Daniel Libianto from the used car dealer Victory 88 Autocar expressed a similar view. He assessed that the tax regulation changes could affect the selling price of electric vehicles in the secondary market.

“There is a possibility that electric vehicle prices will be affected by the latest tax regulations. In fact, since the issue of rising fuel prices emerged, electric vehicle prices have been doing well,” said Daniel.

“Going forward, there will definitely be a correction in the selling price for electric vehicles. The percentage is still uncertain because the regulation was only issued very recently. So we are still monitoring the market ahead,” he continued.

With this situation, the used electric vehicle market is considered to be in a wait-and-see phase. Business players are still awaiting certainty on the applicable tax amount before the real impact on prices and demand in the market can be seen.
