Electric Vehicle Sales Surge to 36 Per Cent at IIMS 2026

Jakarta – The Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS), held from 5–15 February 2026, recorded a significant surge in electric vehicle sales.

From total transaction value of 8.7 trillion rupiah during the show, electric vehicles contributed 36 per cent – a figure far exceeding the national electric vehicle market share throughout 2025.

Dyandra Promosindo Project Manager Rudi MF explained that this year’s transaction composition remained dominated by automobiles. “Supporting industries or aftermarket also feature, but the figures are not substantial even though they rose by approximately 3 per cent in rupiah terms compared to last year,” he said.

In nominal terms, total IIMS 2026 transactions rose approximately 700 billion rupiah compared to the previous year. The 8.7 trillion rupiah figure does not even include transactions from the boating segment.

Rudi added that the majority of show buyers came from the retail segment, consistent with the show’s business-to-consumer (B2C) orientation. The pre-Ramadan momentum also served as a driving factor, as many consumers purchased vehicles for holiday travel.

“From total automobile transactions of 80 per cent of the 8.7 trillion rupiah, the composition is 36 per cent electric vehicles. Last year was also in the 30s. At the Jakarta show the absorption is 36 per cent, whereas nationally it might be around 12 per cent at most,” Rudi said.

“Four international show organisers also visited, such as Thailand Motor Expo, and they said that the EV phenomenon there is more remarkable, with sales already above 40 per cent because the infrastructure has likely been completed,” he noted.

Consumer enthusiasm at this event demonstrates that interest in electric vehicles is in fact quite strong. The remaining challenge is ensuring infrastructure and ecosystem readiness so that market penetration can match, or even exceed, the achievements seen at the show.
