Jakarta, VIVA – Electric vehicle (EV) owner satisfaction continued to rise sharply in 2026, according to the results of the Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Ownership Study released by J.D. Power, a leading global automotive consumer research firm, as cited by VIVA on Thursday, 19 February 2026.

The study shows that EV owners are now more satisfied than ever before, even as the EV market faces an overall sales decline in the United States.

Record EV User Satisfaction

The latest study results indicate that EV owner satisfaction is at its highest level since the study began in 2021. On a 1,000-point scale, the average satisfaction score for premium-class EVs reached 786, up from 756 the previous year.

Meanwhile, mainstream-class EVs achieved a score of 727, slightly higher than the 725 recorded in 2025.

More strikingly, 96 per cent of EV owners said they would consider buying or leasing another EV as their next vehicle, regardless of the expiration of federal tax incentives. This demonstrates strong user confidence in EV technology.

Factors Driving Increased Satisfaction

Several key factors contributed to the rise in satisfaction:

  • Improvements in battery technology and vehicle performance, including more accurate and longer-lasting range.
  • Better access to public charging infrastructure, including more charging points and expanding networks across many regions.
  • Increasingly mature safety features, comfort, and vehicle quality, particularly in premium models.

The study assessed EV owners across various dimensions, including ownership costs, driving experience, ease of charging at home and in public, and after-sales service.

Most Satisfying EV Models for Owners

Based on study data, a number of EV models received high scores from their owners:

  • The Tesla Model 3 topped the rankings with the highest overall satisfaction score.
  • The Tesla Model Y and BMW i4 also ranked among the top premium models.

In the mass-market segment, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 6, and Kia EV9 recorded very strong satisfaction scores.

How EVs Outperform Hybrids

Additionally, EV owner satisfaction was significantly higher than that of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) owners. Because EVs use only an electric motor without a combustion engine, owners can enjoy lower ownership costs and a smoother driving experience without the burden of additional engine maintenance.
