Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Recalls 183,000 Units, Here is Why
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is recalling more than 180,000 cars in its domestic market after regulators identified a production defect in a brake pedal component that poses a potential safety risk.
As reported by Reuters, China’s State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) announced on Friday (18/09/202<0xA0>26) that BYD will immediately initiate a recall of 183,211 units. The recall encompasses the Qin and Tang series produced between 2014 and 2022. The issue was identified in a specific batch of brake pedal stopper pads, which are prone to cracking or detaching after prolonged use.
Under extreme conditions, this defect could cause brake lights to remain illuminated even when the brake pedal is not being depressed. Such a condition could confuse other road users and increase the risk of accidents.
In its regulatory filing, BYD stated that the faulty components will be replaced free of charge through the company’s official dealerships.
Meanwhile, another Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, Nio, is also conducting a vehicle recall. Chinese market regulators stated that 686 Firefly-branded electric cars will be recalled due to a production defect in a steering system component. Under certain conditions, this defect could lead to a loss of power steering assistance.
Nio will inspect the affected vehicles and replace the problematic wiring harnesses at no cost to the vehicle owners.
