Electric vehicle buyers are increasingly making rational choices
Amid an increasingly competitive electric vehicle market, consumer profiles are also changing. If previously the EV trend was often linked to the fear of missing out (FOMO), purchase considerations are now seen as more rational.
Based on a Sun Motor Group survey, most EV users do not revert to fossil-fuel vehicles after experiencing firsthand the lower operating costs, quieter and more responsive driving, and the ease of maintenance and home charging. ‘The majority of electric car buyers are not impulsive consumers; rather they are those who have experience using conventional cars and treat EV as a second or third vehicle,’ said Darwin Kesuma, Chief Operating Officer of Sun Motor Group, in an official statement on Saturday, 7 March.
The change in consumer character is viewed as an important foundation for accelerating the energy transition in the transport sector. Nasrullah Salim, Entrev National Project Manager, sees decisions based on rational considerations will create a healthier and more sustainable market.
When consumers choose based on needs and real-world experience, trust in EV technology grows organically. This trend shows the public’s literacy level about electric vehicles is improving.
‘The development of consumer attitudes should be welcomed as it shows that society no longer sees electric cars as a symbol of lifestyle alone, but as an efficient mobility solution relevant to daily needs. Rational consumers will prompt the industry to continue improving the quality of services and the supporting infrastructure,’ Nasrullah Salim said.
