Electric Trucks Offer Efficiency Solution for Struggling Textile Industry

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia’s textile industry has struggled in recent years, with national production capacity plummeting and many factories shutting down, resulting in mass layoffs. Ever Shine Group director Michael Sung said the company is using six electric trucks leased from Kalista, which has reduced delivery operational costs by 50%, saving over Rp500,000 daily. Compared to diesel trucks using fuel priced at Rp6,800 per litre, savings amount to Rp1,000 per kilometre, excluding maintenance and GPS costs covered by Kalista. ‘Drivers previously had to queue for long periods at petrol stations. With electric trucks, charging stations are often vacant, allowing drivers to charge while taking breaks, praying, or waiting for the battery to fill up,’ he said. Michael also noted that electric trucks have fewer components than conventional ones, leading to lower maintenance costs.
