Electric Trucks Hit Indonesian Roads as Fuso eCanter Distribution Begins
TANGERANG, CNBC Indonesia - Electric trucks are now hitting the roads, joining the growing number of electric cars and motorcycles. PT Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors (KTB) has started distributing its Fuso eCanter electric truck, with units already operating in the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek).
KTB Sales and Marketing Director Aji Jaya stated that the eCanter is part of the company’s effort to support the government’s roadmap towards low-emission transport. “The Fuso eCanter is the pioneer of electric trucks in Indonesia. KTB ensures a supporting ecosystem for operations, from the readiness of EV Mobile Chargers to after-sales service, to provide peace of mind for consumers in operating electric vehicles,” he said at the GIIAS exhibition in Tangerang on Tuesday (4/8/2026).
The vehicle handed over to PT Fastana Logistik Indonesia uses an M-size battery with an 83 kWh capacity, offering a range of up to 140 kilometres and a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 6 tonnes. This specification is deemed suitable for urban distribution needs with fixed and measurable routes, particularly in the Jabodetabek region. “The Fuso eCanter with the M-size battery can travel up to 140 kilometres. The vehicle is also equipped with eAxle technology that integrates the axle, gear, motor, and inverter functions, making maintenance easier and more efficient,” Aji added.
From the user’s perspective, PT Fastana Logistik Indonesia revealed that the decision to adopt an electric truck was not taken instantly. The company first conducted a study on operational aspects, cost efficiency, and after-sales support before deciding to purchase the eCanter unit. This evaluation process took approximately two months before the order was placed.
“First, we certainly looked at the cost efficiency. It turns out this can provide an effect of maybe more than 40 percent, which can save our operational costs,” said PT Fastana Logistik Indonesia Director Subagyo Raharjo. Beyond the potential cost savings, the company also considered the sustainability commitment of the Kapal Api Group. Fastana also assessed that its long experience using more than 400 Mitsubishi Fuso fleets provided important confidence, as the company has already experienced responsive after-sales service and spare parts availability.
“From the fuel alone, our calculation shows around 41 percent savings. That is not yet including maintenance. We are confident maintenance will also be lower. If this implementation is successful at Fastana Logistik Indonesia, other groups will likely follow,” Subagyo concluded.
